Great British Energy · Investment Announcement
Announcing a £7.5m investment for Great British Energy
The challenge
Great British Energy is the publicly owned clean energy company, set up to invest in British energy projects and headquartered in Aberdeen. In 2026 it made its first major solar investment: £7.5m into Naked Energy, a British manufacturer of solar-thermal and PVT collectors, as part of a wider £8.875m round alongside Barclays Climate Ventures.
An investment announcement is a harder film than it sounds. The money is the headline, but the money is not the story. To mean anything to the public, to the industry and to the government departments watching, someone has to explain what the technology actually does, why a British manufacturer building it here matters, and what changes as a result. None of that fits in a press release, and none of it lands if the film sounds like one.
There was a practical problem underneath it too. The people who could tell that story properly worked for three different organisations, and an announcement has a date on it. They came to us on a referral.
Our solution
We filmed four people across the three organisations involved, in one day at Naked Energy’s own site, surrounded by the technology being discussed:
- Christophe Williams, founder of Naked Energy, and Luana Williams, one of their scientists, on the technology itself and what building it in Britain makes possible
- Rob Gilbert, Director of Supply Chain at Great British Energy, on why this was the investment to make
- Gavin Chapman, Managing Director of Barclays Climate Ventures, who invested alongside them
Four voices instead of one spokesperson means the announcement is carried by the people who actually made it happen, including a scientist who works on the product rather than only the people who signed for it. It was also built to survive being lifted out of context, because an announcement film rarely stays on the channel it was made for.
The results
- The film ran on Great British Energy’s own channels and was used as PR, where it was picked up by press
- The announcement reached people well beyond the organisation’s own following as a result
- Great British Energy have commissioned further work with us since
The investment itself is expected to create up to 40 skilled manufacturing jobs directly, with around 100 more across the supply chain, as Naked Energy brings production of its Virtu collectors in-house in the UK.
